Monday Muse: The Hunger Games, Official Illustrated Movie Companion by Kate Egan

Why did I read this book?

Let me tell you one thing: I’m beyond excited to watch Hunger Games. I mean, Hunger Games is awesome. It is one of the best books I’ve ever read, aside from the epic Harry Potter series. I still remembered the time I jumped in happiness when they announce that Hunger Games will be made into a movie. Sure I frowned at the casts, since my Peeta is kind of different with Josh Hutcherson and my Katniss somehow looks tougher… but well, mostly I’m just granted that now more people will soon know how awesome Hunger Games is. I cried in happiness when Taylor Swift, who is my favorite singer, finally released her song, Safe and Sound, for Hunger Games soundtrack. Oh, just imagine my excitement when I watched music video for Safe and Sound. I practically spent a day texting everyone I know that Safe and Sound is one of the most beautiful music video ever!

I don’t usually buy or read a movie companion, and this is my first time buying one. This book is quite informative. I enjoyed pictures from the movie, and it’s really fun to learn more about Suzanne Collins. I guess the most I enjoyed from this movie companion is pictures of Capitol residents. I have to admit that in my mind, Capitol people are people with zero fashion sense and full of silly outfits. I can’t be more wrong. The fashion amazes me. It’s outrageous, but somehow, it is also pretty. They use bright and hideous colors, colors I don’t think I will ever wear in real life, but the color palettes fit right as Capitol’s colors. They look like dolls, people who are only seen in fashion magazines and runways. I don’t think that the costume designer can do a better job on it!

Since they said a picture paints a thousand words, you can see for yourself:

 Aren’t they look *ehem* stunning?

I think it might be a great idea to wear Capitol fashion for Halloween this year! I may would be the lady with fancy nail polish. If you know what I mean…

It’s too bad that there aren’t many good photos of Katniss and Peeta in this book. Since I’m Team Peeta, it’s kind of unacceptable. Anyway, Liam Hemsworth as Gale makes me intrigued to have a Gale poster in my bedroom. Now I know why Katniss is torn between Peeta and Gale... err, my new love for Liam Hemsworth is a different topic I guess.

What do you think of the Capitol fashion movie companion book? Are you as excited as me to watch the movie? :)

  1. OH. MY. GOSH!! LOL I'm so excited for this movie too (*high fives you for being awesome enough to recognize THG's awesomeness*) and those pictures were too epic for words! Ever since they announced the movie, I've been wondering how they would make the colourful Capitol people look too... and they did a crazy-fantastic job! :D

I wasn't the biggest fan of Josh Hutcherson being as Peeta at first either, but seeing him in the trailer made me believe that he can probably do an amazing job! :) And oh my sweet goodness, I literally had T-Swift's song on reply the other day because it was so BEAUTIFUL. Doesn't it just break your heart??

Thanks for sharing this, Hilda! It was so much fun to get a sneak peek of how crazy the Capitol people are going to look -- I'm so excited! :) <3

    1. *high fives back* OH.EM.GEE! LOL yay for Hunger Games movie! Aren't the Capitol people look beautiful (err... sort of)?? I LOVE your enthusiasm, Mimi! If I could be more excited, then I would be after reading your enthusiastic comment! x)

I really hope that Josh can capture Peeta's character! I like his acting and he's kind of a veteran actor so I think we can expect amazing job from him! I agree, Mimi! Taylor Swift's Safe and Sound is freakin BEAUTIFUL! SO can't wait to watch Hunger Games! <3

  2. Ah the hair! The makeup! It all looks perfect! So much better than I even imagined, to be honest. :) I think I want to steal some of those outfits - not to wear them, but just to stare at the prettiness. ;)

I want this movie companion! I don't usually buy those things either but this looks like it is worth it. I'm so excited for the film, too. :)

    1. I'm so glad that you also share the attraction for Capitol's fashion, Sam! Like you, I'd definitely want to steal one of their dresses for my very-private fashion show in my room LOL! <3

I hope Hunger Games movie will be as much awesome as our expectation! Finger crossed! x)

  3. Haha! Super cute and gushy post! I am absolutely ASHAMED to say that I haven't read The Hunger Games yet, and I'm seeing everyone around me with that same reaction, and I'm dying!!! because I wanna see the movie too, but I'll never watch a movie when there's an awesome book >_<

LOOOOVE Taylor Swift as well ;)

    1. Vivian, I dare say that it's considered as a crime in bookish world! xD You need to read Hunger Games series soon! I understand the feeling when you don't want to watch the movie because you don't want to ruin the book. Well, we can only hope that the movie will do the book a justice! <3

      Taylor Swift is AWESOME! <3

  4. Gosh Hilda, you're almost as excited as me! I just can't wait for it to come out, but at the same time I don't want it to come out because I'm afraid that it won't live up to the book and then I'll be really disappointed and I won't have anything to look forward to. Does that make any sense at all? I'm not that keen on the fashion. It's a bit creepy. Although I guess that's what they're looking for. Oh and Josh Hutchinson isn't how I would picture Peter either :(

    1. I know that I won't be able to match your enthusiasm, Lan! :D It definitely makes sense! I'm not really sure that the movie can be as awesome as the book, but it never hurts to have faith! Since this is the first movie of this series, I just hope that they would stuck with the book, then everything would be okay! :)

  6. OHMYGOSH! I'm even more excited for the movie now, if that's even possible xD I'm yet to listen to Taylor Swift's Safe and Sound (I can't believe I haven't yet! She's so amazing and it's for THE HUNGER GAMES soundtrack <3)! I'm going to listen to it right now! Can't wait! And Wooot Capitol fashion is so much FUN! Those outfits and the makeup- WOW! I totally agree... In the book, I pictured Capitol fashion as kinda ridiculous but it seems so addictive and awesomely over-the-top in the movie! Props to the designer! <3 and yay for Liam Hensworth! I hope the movie's great! I can hardly wait! Thanks so much for the awesome post, Hilda :D

  7. I'm incredibly excited about it too! Unfortunately, I don't have a theatre nearby so I'll probably have to wait a while to see it *pouts*, but since I managed to wait this long, I promise not to cry too har.

Oh, and Gale looks... I'm speechless. *swoons*

  8. ACK I'm so excited for the film too!! I already get emotional from the trailer so I bet I'll be an absolute wreck watching the actual film. Loved the pictures you showed, I haven't seen them before because I try not to pay attention so I won't spoil myself, ha. The costumes are perfect! The casting choices weren't my ideal either but I think it would work out. I wasn't really a fan of Gale in the books (well, more like I felt nothing for me) but with Liam, I can see why Katniss is torn too like you! :P Ooh, I think this post got me more excited, haha. Awesome post, Hilda!

    1. I felt really emotional when I watched the trailer too, Elena! The moment Katniss volunteer... it really broke my heart! I'm glad that you also love the Capitol costumes! I'm not a fan of Gale in book either (who's Gale? I prefer guy who can bread or bring a trisula! :P), BUT the moment I see Liam/Gale... I went asdfghjkl! Thank you Elena, I'm glad you like the post! ;)

  9. If I could live anywhere in Panem I think I'd live in the Capitol. I just love their style and the way they describe the buildings in the book is amazing ♥
