Monday Muse: Guy Best Friends

Oh look, it's Monday again! Time for Monday Muse post! ♥ How are you guys? :)

I'm sorry that I didn't post Monday Muse last week. I got sick and my body went into auto-mode. It means that I can do nothing but sleep, snuggle in bed, watch TV series, and basically being lazy worm. But for now, Hilda is back and ready for action! ;)

Today we're going to talk about another type of boys in fiction: guy best friend! For other type of boys, see my posts of Bad Boys and Good Guys! ♥

Guy Best Friends

Appearance
  • He's cute. He usually wears shirt and hoodie.
  • Devilish grin, bright eyes.
  • Most of them oozes happiness.
  • In general: the cute guy next door looks! :)

Behaviors
  • He's annoying! But you like how ridiculous and crazy he is.
  • Mischievous and irritating! Sometimes you just want to throw pillow at his face to shut him up.
  • Your forever partner-in-crime and back-up.
  • Always the voice of logic. Have I told you that he can be really annoying sometimes?
  • You can always count on him to tell you his frank opinion about the guy you're dating.
  • He might won't listen patiently to your ranting about that jerk who broke your heart, but he will be the one who beats the ex up for hurting you.
  • Extra brownie point: guy best friend is not as judgmental as girl best friend. You're having a crush on that new bad boy? Guy best friend might just tell you to be careful while girl best friend will go crazy. :P
Extras
  • Girls tend to forget that not every guy-girl relationship have to end up like the ending of When Harry Met Sally. Yes, that's a very cute movie, and yes, that's soooo cute. But not every friendship has to have that kind of ending, right? ;)
  • He can give you that sweet brother-like hug!
Where to Meet

He's usually the guy you spend most time with at school. You have most of your classes with him and you sit in the same table with him at lunch time. Lunch time: time for him to spill the latest guy-only gossip. :P

Guy Best Friend in Fictions

Hilda's Verdict

Why did I write this post? Because I'm obsessed with Chace Crawford and I have to find ways to post his picture.  Er, no although that's one of the reasons. I wrote this post because I think guy best friend in YA is rare. Most of the time, we have guy best friend who then becomes love interest. That's the perfect recipe for love triangle. I don't think that it's necessary for the best friend to fall in love with the heroine. I think it would be much better if some heroines have guy's perspective in their (love) lives. And the guy best friend do not have to be gay. Who says friendship between guy and girl do not exist? ;)

guy best friends rock! ;)

I hope this post can brighten your day! Stay inspiring, get inspired, and have inspiration! Have a wonderful Monday, awesome people! ♥

What do you think of guy best friend in fiction? Who is your favorite fictional guy best friend? :)

PS: I'm having headache right now. I'm going to returns comments as soon as I feel better. Thank you for your kind understanding! :)

  1. I absolutely LOVE that you always post pictures of Chace Crawford. And I think guy best friends in fiction are great, especially the ones that don't become love interests. (:

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I definitely agree with the list you gave! (:

  2. I love guy best friends and it drives me nuts when they always end up as the love interest, because in my life, that does not happen. I have plenty of guy BFF's that are straight but do not like me in a romantic way. A good gay BFF is always lovely though. ;0)

Harry Potter is one of my favorites too.

  3. I love this! I love guy best friends! When Harry and Hermione danced in Deathly Hallows I was all in awww! mode. ;) And...sigh....Alex. He is probably my favourite best friend in YA fiction. I still can't stop thinking about him! :)

By the way, Chace Crawford is a good enough reason for ANY post. ;)

  4. Oh, I want a guy best friend so badly, especially after your sweet post :) I want a boy who can give me brotherly hugs :') So so so sweet <3 I hate how people think friendships between boys and girls exist and I totally agree with you - they don't have to be gay!

Thanks for another lovely post, Hilda - now I can always turn to you to brighten my start of the week!

  5. Aww I love this! I definitely think there need to be more guy best friends in fiction--ones NOT used as love interests!

  6. You always manage to make me smile with these, Hilda! ♥ They're absolutely lovely.

Now now, about guy best friends (and yup, that boy from the pictures looks totally swoon-worthy). I always love them in my reads. And then sometimes I want him to end together with the main character, but... Anyways. Of course for me the best example is Eddie! ♥

I hope you feel better soon, Hilda! Rest and take it easy :)

  8. I definitely think that there should be more girl/guy friendships in YA. I would seriously love to see that! There's not enough in YA these days. The guy best friend always ends up being one of the love interests, blah, blah, blah. =P So I really love this post! I definitely think Alex from Unraveling is a fabulous example. =)

Awesome post Hilda! And rest up, hopefully you'll feel better soon. <3

  10. I adore this post! And I adore the whole guy best friend dynamic. I've always wanted to write s book with a guy best friend who is just that. A best friend. Not someone who eventually turns into a love interest no matter how hot he is. One other thing about guys best friends that I love is that he will tell you when you're being ridiculous and you'll be able to take it without being offended. That's the beauty of guys :)

  11. I love that you're a Chace Crawford addict. :D
Well, he is cute, so that's totally understandable!
Guy best friends in YA fiction are awesome. I loved Alex from Unraveling. He was so fun and very protective. :)
    Lovely post, Hilda !

  13. HILDAAAA~! -cyber-bear-hug- this TOTALLY brightened my day by a million-watts! Yes, I really do agree with you. it's not even just that they're rare...they seem to not always turn into something (well, in the books I've read). why can't they just stay their lovely guy-friend selves for the entire book? And they also offer a grounded feeling for the character, if they do appear (I'm thinking Oliver from Blue Bloods...oh Ollie!!! sorry Jack, but I don't like you.)

and Hilda dear, Chace Crawford is to die for, so don't worry ;) it's all good <3

    1. Aww, thank you, Preet! Hehe, glad that I'm not the only one who seek (shameless) ways to post hot guys pictures on my blog! x)

Monday Muse is a feature created by me to make everyone's Monday better. Since I have love-hate relationship with Monday, I figured out that maybe there are people who share the same way. And thus, Monday Muse is born! Spread the inspiration! <3 Thanks again, Preet! :)

  15. Please keep the pictures of Chace Crawford coming. No reason is necessary! I love this post. Although all the pros you list about having a guy best friend would make it so easy to fall in love with him. Awww, he gives his sweatshirt when cold, love that one! :)

  16. I love guy best friends (in fiction that is). Although, unlike everyone else who seems to hate when it turns into more, I think friendships turned romance are the sweetest ones =) But hey, that's just me ;)

  17. I like guy bfs in YA too! But I do feel a bit sorry for them when it turns out they like their girl bf and she doesn't like them or strings them along!

  18. I don't think I've ever liked a guy best friend as a love interest in YA but I <3 Finnick even though i don't see him as one, haha. I like the idea of a guy best friend though and the friendships (when platonic) are really great.

  20. Hahaha. Using Chace Crawford's picture is the a pretty good reason ;) :P I'd love to see more guy best friends who are just best friends too. I heart Harry and Hermione's friendship- I'm glad they didn't end up together! Keep em coming, Hilda. I LOVE Monday Muse! It's so much fun :)
